Haven't Met You Yet - Michael Bublé

A few months ago I came across the best wedding video I have ever seen on Style Me Pretty. I opted to skip the wedding videographer for our wedding, and I haven't had a single regret about that choice until I saw this wedding video by Elysium Productions. Elysium describes this video style as their Rock 'n Roll Same Day Edit option. I think it is such a clever way to capture the couple's day in a very "to the point" fashion. The video is fun and would be something any couple could share with friends without torturing them with three hours of cutting the cake, etc.

Whether you love wedding videos or not this is a great one to check out. I actually just have this video playing in my head whenever I hear Michael Bublé's Haven't Met You Yet. The couple in the video is Li Xiaopeng, the Chinese Olympic gold medalist & his wife Angel. Check it out here at Elysium Production's website or below.

Have a great Halloween! See you in November.

Trick-or-treat

Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine. It's one of the few holidays that is just about being youthful and having fun. The rules are simple dress up and get candy or carve a pumpkin and pass out candy. I already covered that I won't be dressing up and unfortunately won't be passing out candy at my door this year, so I thought I would make a top five of my favorite Halloween candy. Seeing as the main way I will be celebrating this year will be to eat Halloween candy while watching thriller movies with Ryno.

What a Treat

As my beloved sno cone season comes to an end I have been forced to look elsewhere for my sugary treats. I mentioned last week, Ryno and I found the perfect holdover spot until sno cone season starts back in March. Since the weather was already a bit cooler this weekend we decided to make a stop at Tiff's Treats. It is a great local cookie shop that makes delicious cookies. Also, they warm them up for you if you come after they have already cooled. I personally love the peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. It cuts out having to choose between peanut butter or chocolate chip. Tiff's Treats you are genius!

Lake Travis

Ryno and I have learned that our perception of far away and the average Austinite's perception of far away are two very different things. We attribute it to all of those years we spent in Atlanta and learning quickly never to drive unnecessarily between the hours of 4 PM and 7 PM. Otherwise, you may have the misfortune of sitting in traffic for two hours when you are only trying to get to the South end of town. Austin, however, is the opposite. We still run into bad traffic during rush hour, but when we found out we could cross from one end of town to the other in about 15 minutes on an average day we were giddy. Still when people tell us Lake Travis is way out there, we stop and think better of losing our day to driving so far away with no other purpose than just checking the lake out. Fortunately, we had all day Sunday to make the trip, so we piled in the car after lunch and drove West until we ran into the lake. It is gorgeous! It also took us no more than 30 minutes, and when we arrived we couldn't conceal our excitement that again to us this was not so far away.

The lake felt like the Mediterranean to me the way the hills surround the water, and the water is such a perfect blue. I managed to snap a photo of the flock of sailboats on the lake.

Frightened Rabbit - Living In Colour

The video this week is actually a recommendation from my sister. She sent it to me labeled as her "new obsession." I checked it out and really liked it too. They are a Scottish band, and this is a video created by Kevin Bayer of their North American tour. The song reminds me of the music I heard when my sis and I were in Scotland together. I think it is a great song for the weekend. I hope you enjoy!

Great Songs

One of the first songs I heard this morning is an all-time favorite of mine, Beast of Burden by the Rolling Stones. In the spirit of the moment I started compiling a list of songs in my head that also warm my heart when I hear them. Here are the five top songs:

Sno Cones

As I've mentioned so many times here, I adore sno cones. Something about the childhood nostalgia they stir up and the fact that I am living on the edge eating ice against my dentist's recommendation just makes them irresistible. My goal for this week is to stop by Sno Beach for my last sno cone of the season before they close up for the winter. It's almost unbearable to think about making it until the spring without the tasty treat, but Ryno has found a winter replacement for me in the name of Tiff's Treats. More to come on that, but not until after sno cone season is over.

Acorns

Now that fall has arrived in Texas it seems like there are fallen acorns everywhere. Although, I may have a skewed perspective, since Elton has taken to taste-testing every acorn he comes across. Typically, he charges ahead of me on our walks, but as of late he has been lagging behind. Today I turned around and caught a glimpse of him chomping down on an acorn trying to crack it open. Inevitably he ends up discarding the acorn most likely due to a lack of flavor, but this doesn't deter him he is back at it a moment later. I am going to bring my camera with me tomorrow in hopes of catching a shot of his scrunched up face chewing on acorns.

She & Him - In The Sun

How great is this video by She & Him. I think Z. Deschanel's style is flawless. I always feel super cheerful after listening to this song, so I hope it spreads cheer to your weekend too!

All-Mighty

It's almost Halloween, which is a favorite holiday of mine. I always had the best Halloweens as a kid complete with amazing costumes my mom would sew. Throughout college I made my costumes each year, because store bought just didn't live up to my expectations. However, I haven't had a Halloween house party to go to in awhile, so I have let my celebrating slide a little bit. This year I thought it would be nice to bring back some of the fun and get Elton a costume. I have found the perfect costume, but I just can't decide if Ryno would be up for it. He doesn't support the practice of clothes on dogs.

If anyone else is looking for a small dog costume, I think the costumes All-Mighty is selling this year are adorable. Personally, I love the penguin! They also have a lamb and a pig if that is more your style.

Airstream Trailers

When we first moved to Austin I felt slightly unsure about the trend of eating from Airstream trailers.  However, I quickly discovered how wrong I was. In fact, a lot of our favorite spots are Airstream trailer parks.  So here is a list of my top favorites so far...

1. Torchy's Tacos
2. Sno Beach
3. Gourdough's
4. Holy Cacao
5. Lustre Pearl taco truck

Our First ACL

The day we decided we were moving to Austin was the same day we bought our tickets for ACL. By that point there were only tickets available for Sunday, so we bought two tickets and waited in anticipation for the fest. Since we have Elton and we didn't see a reason to get a dog sitter for the day, we only went for a little over 3 hours. It was a really interesting experience. Overall my favorite part was that we were able to easily walk to the fest rather than bum a ride or catch a taxi. I also enjoyed seeing Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes live. But the real winner of the day was Band of Horses. It's the band Ryno took me to see when he proposed, and they had the best sound quality of the shows we were able to catch.

Next year I want to bike to the show and maybe grab a three day pass. I think it would be fun to concentrate on seeing more of the earlier shows rather than the headliners. I love finding new music in those types of settings. We'll see how it works out, I do have another year to plan it out.
