The Ghost Room

Last night we went to Ghost Room downtown to see The Dark Water Hymnal play. They are a local Austin band, and we found them recommended in The Austin Chronicle. They were listed to play second, but ended up closing. We were able to catch the first part of their set, but had to leave before the end due to early mornings or as some call it "being old." What we did catch was fantastic though. They had a great sound that filled the room. It was exciting and reminded me of being in Ireland for some reason. At one point I was actually hoping people would start stomping the beat, but unfortunately that never happened. All the same, I'm so excited we have finally started checking out the local bands. Austin has so much music it can be overwhelming at times. Of course, that is a problem I don't mind having at all!

New York, I Love You

I watched New York, I Love You tonight. Not sure how I missed this movie in the theaters, but it has a fabulous cast. I really liked it and thought the stories were very entertaining.

Three and a half more days

It's almost 2011, and I only have three and a half more days to stop drinking soda if I am going to avoid starting the year with already broken resolutions. I am already concerned that this may be a bit of a challenge for me. I did it once before, and I think I lasted about a year. However, since we moved to Austin I have been deprived of sweet tea, which was the only thing getting me through it. I love Sweet Leaf Tea which is an Austin brand, but I can't find it everywhere I go. Also, it doesn't seem to be sold in bulk anywhere (I think I will research that further). Somehow my husband managed to quit drinking soda cold turkey several years ago, so the bar is set high.

I do plan to live up my last few cola drinking days with trips to P. Terry's for my favorite Dublin Dr. Pepper and Mexican Coke. I wonder if I have to consider root beer as a soda beverage. They have Maine Root Beer on tap at Alamo Drafthouse and it is delicious!

Hope your resolutions are coming along!

Now that Christmas is over it's time to make our resolutions for the new year. I have always loved resolutions. Whether I follow through with them or not has never mattered that much. The part that I like is thinking of what I hope is possible for the year ahead. Here are my top five resolutions for 2011 from small to big.

1. Give up soda...even Mexican Coke & Dublin Dr. Pepper!
2. Spend time outside every day
3. Travel together as much as possible
4. Find our new home
5. Create art for myself

Flirtation Survey

Maybe it is all the time I am spending on the computer online shopping (or avoiding it) that has sparked my interest in online quizzes, but whatever it is I can't get enough of them. First my sister sent me a link to a quiz called "Which Jane Austen Character Are You?" and now Ryno sent me a quiz from The University of Kansas that assesses your flirtation style. So if you guys want to join in, I thought they were both entertaining. Fair warning though, the Jane Austen quiz takes awhile. However, it was totally worth it. I scored as Elizabeth Bennet, my all time favorite character! And as for my flirt style I scored highest in the Sincere category with an 80-90%.

Also, last night Ryno and I went on a little date to see Tangled, the Disney Rapunzel story. It was so great! I agree with the critics that it doesn't touch some of the classics, but it's definitely the best in years. I love a good Disney princess story, and the imagery was beautiful!

Lovely Library

Did you see the Querosene House on Apartment Therapy today? I love a good home library. I am not an avid reader, at least not like I aspire to be, but I do adore books and libraries. When Ryno and I started dating in Atlanta we discovered we both loved the same house in Virginia Highlands that had the sweetest library in the front room. It was always lit up whenever I drove by, and I still dream of having a library in my home one day.

Sisters - White Christmas

Last night thanks to AMC I had my yearly viewing of White Christmas. Now that Ryno and I are settled where we want to live permanently, I've been thinking a lot more about our traditions. I think now is the time to start developing our own traditions as a family. Watching White Christmas has always been one of my own favorite traditions, and it was so nice to have Ryno enjoy it with me.

The video includes scenes of Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye lip-synching to Sisters. Enjoy!

Holiday Cards

The holidays are quickly approaching as I am sure you all have noticed as well. Again I have managed to fall behind in my Christmas card making/writing. Normally, I make our Christmas cards, but generally fall behind in writing them. This year I opted out of making them and instead bought the cards below by Anna Bond through Rifle Company.

While I am madly in love with these Boston Terrier cards, I feel a little bad not making our Christmas card this year. So now I am debating if I have the time to both make and write our cards again. I've pulled some holiday inspiration images as a way to inspire myself into action. I thought I would share those with you.

I've Just Seen a Face (Across The Universe)

I missed my Music Friday post due to my Friday night date with Ryno, so I thought I would share it today instead. Today I am taking the advice of my intern at work and giving Across the Universe another shot. I loved the music from this movie. However, I struggled to stay interested through the entire movie. So today I am going to watch it again, and I can't wait to hear I've Just Seen a Face by Jim Sturgess. It is my favorite song in the movie; I love the bluegrass style of the song and that Sturgess's British accent comes through when he sings it. It's a great combination.

Hope you are having a relaxing weekend too!

Pantone Pick

Pantone released the new color of the year today, and I saw it announced on Apartment Therapy. I always loved the idea of doing color analysis and prediction. I find it fascinating how it can effect so many areas of design.  The new color for 2011 is Honeysuckle. I would not have thought Honeysuckle would be red or as they call it "bright pink." It's a great color though!

I was inspired to look for some great photos with pink are the ones I liked on Flickr.

Monday Flowers

I was a bit under the weather yesterday, so Ryno surprised me with beautiful flowers. Unfortunately, we had to use the one vase we have and turn it into storage for kitchen utensils, so here was my solution.

Personally, I love flowers in mugs. It's such a happy thought.

"Forget You" - Gwyneth Paltrow

Well, I never saw this coming...posting a music video by Gwyneth Paltrow that is. However, I have to say her Glee episode was definitely one of my favorites ever. It was truly funny, and I loved the return to the dark comedy that existed when the show first began. That being said the thing that really sealed the deal for me was how well she performed Cee-Lo's song, F... You. So if you missed the original performance you can check it out here.

Sorry things have been a bit light the past few weeks, but I am resolved to do a better job next week. Have a great weekend!
