Our Anniversary & The Royal Wedding

Ryno and I celebrated our 4 year anniversary this week. We had a delicious dinner at Clay Pit and then Ryno surprised me with dancing. However, when we got to the Broken Spoke for some two-stepping we discovered it was advanced swing night. Without any hesitation I suggested we take a rain check on the dancing as I didn't see either of us being successful at advanced swing. Ryno seemed pretty relieved that I had no desire to stay for swing dancing, and we decided drinks at Hula Hut on the lake would be a nice way to end our evening. I ordered the Blue Hawaii in honor of our honeymoon trip. It was a beautiful night, and I loved celebrating with my wonderful husband!

Below is a photo I took of our hotel, Turtle Bay Resort, in Hawaii. Yes we were there during the filming of Forgetting Sarah Marshall. We saw Russell Brand and Jason Segel, but overall attempted to avoid the filming process, which proved difficult since they closed off 98% of the lobby. Still the hotel was beautiful, and every room has an ocean view. We saw sea turtles from our room every morning.

Also, The Royal Wedding took place this morning. I opted out of waking up to watch it, but while I was looking for photos I came across The Royal Channel. I think it is sort of awesome they have their own channel for this event. You can check out some of the footage here.

boxes and more boxes

This weekend we moved. It took several truckloads and one large box truck trip, but we are finally in our new place. We were pretty wiped from all the moving so everything is still in boxes for now. However, I did manage to paint our pantry. It was sort of a custard color, and I painted it bright white. I would share a photo, but it is not wildly exciting by any means. I am hoping will will be able to do some yard work next to clean up flower beds and possibly start a vegetable garden. If/when that happens I will share some photos of our progress there.

The most immediate reaction came from Elton. As soon as everything was in the new place it seemed to click we were "home," and he started sprinting from one side of the house to the other. After wearing himself out he found a patch of sun and laid down for a nap. He seems pretty thrilled to have real space again!

Hope you all had a happy Monday!

Happy Friday...We're Moving!

Sorry it was a light week here. Our move has been a bit distracting. We've been packing and moving boxes all week. The plan is to finish the final moves this weekend, and I am looking forward to having everything in one place again. We did take a break one night, so Ryno could bike with his brother and I tried out Takoba with a friend. Elton and I dropped Ryno off at his ride before dinner, so I was finally able to get a few photos of the bikers gathering. It was a pretty cool thing to see so many people gathering together, and while I was at Takoba they rode past us which was pretty fun too!

Then today I finally saw the Pubcrawler, which is a bar that is mobilized by the passengers pedaling while they drink beer. I have heard so much about it, but this was the first time I saw it  in operation. It was pretty awesome!

This week I am sharing a British Sea Power song. We saw them last week at The Mohawk. It was a great show, and we loved The Mohawk venue. It was our first time catching a show there. They have a great outdoor set-up with several balconies. Have a great Earth Day/Easter Weekend!

Elton turns 2

Elton had his second birthday this weekend! We took him to his Boston Terrier group to play with his friends. He also got to go to the pet store with Ryno to pick out a toy, which resulted in Elton literally pulling a sock monkey toy off the shelf. When they arrived home Elton came running in, sock monkey in his mouth and looking very pleased with his choice. Sadly an arm came off the monkey shortly after these photos, so he awaits a trip to "the hospital" aka my sewing machine. However, we are in the midst of moving, so it may have to wait until the weekend. Hope you all are having a great start to your week!

Marley Fest

Happy Friday! Marley fest started today at Auditorium Shores. It has been renamed Austin Reggae Festival, but I prefer the Bob Marley seems more honest. Anyway, I thought I would post some Ben Harper for the weekend. Don't get me wrong I like Bob Marley, but I love Ben Harper! I was able to see Ben Harper perform when I was in school in Atlanta, and it was definitely a great show! Also, I thought the summery, beach feel of this video was perfect for the summer weather in Austin.

Hopefully, Ryno and I will be spending the weekend moving into our new place. Unfortunately, we don't have any boxes packed yet, so the move may trickle into next week. Wish us luck! Have a wonderful weekend!

Reading Corner

I did it! I ordered Bossypants by Tina Fey over the weekend and it arrived yesterday. Today was my first chance to sit down with it. I like to take Elton to the dog park when I get home from work, since he is cooped up all day. So I brought Bossypants along with me, and I couldn't stop laughing. I was glad no one else was in the dog park, and if anyone approached without me noticing I am sure my uncontrollable laughter as I sat alone scared them away. I'm only through the first chapter, since I also was keeping an eye on Elton. He found the longest stick ever and was running around trying to balance it from the very end, which was also pretty funny. I have a photo I will share later... not sure if you can see it or not. I just wanted to jump on to say I am LOVING Bossypants!

Hello Summer!

It seems as though spring lasted only a few weeks, and that summer is already here. The weekend was warm, and everyone seemed to be outside. Which is exactly where we spent our entire weekend. First we took Elton to see his girlfriend at the dog park. They are so cute, and they seem to only want to play together. She is so much faster than him, so in these photos he had given up on getting the stick back from her.

After the dog park, we rode our bikes from our place to Zilker Park. Barton Springs Pool was packed with people enjoying the sun from the lawn. Only a few brave people were diving into the 60 degree spring. Still it was beautiful, and the spring looked picturesque. We continued on until we reached Sno-Beach, my favorite sno cone stand. We all grabbed a sno cone to cool down before riding home. It was a lot of fun to bike around our neighborhood!

texas bluebonnets

Happy Friday! I am so glad the weekend is here, and yesterday I finished my book. I promise I will fill you in on it next week, since I didn't get a chance this week. I am trying to decide what book to start next. I have a few sitting around I would like to read, but Tina Fey's book Bossypants just came out yesterday and that is definitely my top pick right now. I am always impressed by Tina Fey's ability to write so accurately about current culture and find a way to laugh about it. I imagine her book to be refreshing and honest, and that is definitely something I would enjoy reading.

The Texas bluebonnet festival is this weekend in Chappell Hill, Texas. It seems like it may be a little too far for us to drive, but if we do make the trip I will bring back photos to share. That being said, I thought it would be fun to base the Friday music selection around the festival and Texas. Therefore; I give you Willie Nelson! He is one of my absolute favorites. When I was a kid, my dad always played Willie Nelson or The Judds during our road trips around Texas. So if we do happen to road trip to the festival I will definitely be playing some Willie Nelson too!

the ride

Well last night was the social bike ride for beginners. Unfortunately, we missed it due to my beginner status. I wasn't able to ride fast enough to make it to the meeting spot on time. We actually just missed them and could have caught up had the 45 minute ride over there not worn me down. So instead we road back the way we came with one pit-stop at El Chilito (I love their watermelon fresca). I suspect it may take me awhile to be capable of doing the social rides, unless we start driving to them, which may defeat the point... Either way it was fun to see some of Eastside that we have never seen, and I hope we bike more frequently now that I am getting comfortable with my bike. For now I finally have some photos of my bike to share. Also, while we were at El Chilito the social ride passed by, so I took some photos of it too. Ryno said Thursdays ride has about four times as many people, but still it's fun to see a pack of people biking!

Tonight is my first time riding my bike during the Austin social ride. I am excited to give riding amongst others a try. I will let you know how it goes!

Skies of Blue

The weekend started with beautiful weather. I left work Friday and picked up Ryno for lunch. While I waited for him, I snapped some photos of the blue sky. We had a fun lunch outside on a patio enjoying the breeze.

Then Saturday night we met Ryno's brother at Hopdoddy on South Congress. We love the variety of burger options they offer, and I personally love the chili cheese fries! We thought it would be busy on SoCo as it was Saturday, but we didn't realize it would be standstill traffic due to a car show that was being held this weekend. All of the vintage cars were cruising the SoCo strip, or trying to at least. It was more of a slow crawl. Once we found parking, it was fun to walk past all the cars displayed for people passing by. It was a fun place to people watch; we even spotted a guy flipping burgers on grill set on the back of his car.

The crowd on SoCo

We wrapped up the weekend with a movie, specifically Rango, and we also took Elton to his Boston Terrier play group. I love Elton's play group probably as much as he does. He loves being chased by the other bostons...a pack is best if at all possible. And I love meeting all of the other bostons, which is bound to happen because they all love to run around greeting everyone.

I am trying to get back to sharing music on Fridays. It is personally the day I look forward to most here, because I love finding new music I love. I'm reading a book, which I will go more into next week after I finish it, but it's made me realize that I love music. I knew this before actually, but hearing that other people don't think much about music makes me realize how much I do think about it. Also, I really depend on music to brighten my day at times or to stir up a lovely memory. For some reason, the Spring/Summer seasons are my favorite time to find new music. I think a lot of it relates to summer break from school. Driving around listening to music with my windows down during the summer was always one of my favorite things to do with the endless free time I had when school was out.

I recently signed up to receive NPR's Song of the Day emails and that is where I found Minks. They are a Brooklyn based rock band. You can read NPR's review of their album By The Hedge or check out their MySpace page. I chose to share their video Funeral Song directed by Lance Drake.
