scout book

I love all things paper, and I thought it would be fun to highlight a US-made paper product today. Scout Books are made in Portland and even source their papers domestically. They have so many great styles to choose from, and a few "design your own" sets. I personally love the simplicity of the Brown Composition Notebooks, but I think it would be fun to mix in a variety of colors with the neutrals.

winter is coming

I totally want this Madewell sweater for winter...

Fall may have only just started, but I saw this sweater at Madewell and felt I absolutely need to buy it. I think it would be adorable in the winter with a full skirt and boots. Of course, I would also need there to be a bit of winter in Austin to justify the purchase. To quote my fav cartoon character... "le sigh."

austin style week

I attended TRIBEZA's Style Week kick-off party at By George this weekend with my friend J. The party was really well done, and we had an awesome time. A local photographer, John Pesina, snapped this shot of us at the party. Afterwards, I met up with Ryno, his brother and his brother's friends for a small backyard party. Elton thoroughly enjoyed the backyard playtime with all of the pups. He was running around in circles and barking at anything that moved. It was extremely entertaining.

nancy sinatra

The season finale of So You Think You Can Dance aired this week. Unfortunately, Cyrus didn't win the entire thing like I hoped; he was my favorite starting from the auditions in Atlanta. I thought it would be fun to give a nod to this season by sharing one of my favorite song selections from the season. The dance was choreographed by Stacey Tookey and the song was Nancy Sinatra's version of "Bang Bang." Also, if you enjoy this Nancy Sinatra video watch "These Boots Are Made For Walking" it's fantastic! It's completely late 60's and has some entertaining choreography.

Have a great weekend!

general knot

At the start of this year I set a goal to buy more US-made products. I say "more" rather than "only" US-made products, which was the original goal, because it quickly became clear how extremely difficult that would be to adhere to. I did find that just setting the goal made me much more aware of not only all of the imported goods I purchase, but also the stores that primarily carry imported products. I thought it would be fun to share some American-made products with all of you.

The first company I thought I would share is General Knot & Co. It was started by two guys that met while waiting for a train in NYC. I love the vintage prints and pattern mixing they use in their tie designs.

of interest

I am going to strive to share five of my favorite, recent pins from my pinterest boards every Wednesday. I would love to start sharing more inspiration here, so I thought paring pinterest with my top 5 wednesdays theme would work out well.

caramel

I think I've mentioned that somewhat overnight, it seems, our friends all started having babies. We have moved around a bit since school, so we aren't easily able to swing by and meet friends' new family members like we would like to do. Therefore, I find myself sending little "welcome to the world" gifts, and keeping an eye out for adorable baby gift ideas. Today on all the mountains I came across the London based baby clothing brand Caramel, isn't it the cutest thing? I love the way they display the entire outfit on their site, and their shops look adorable. If you live in NYC, you are in luck, one is coming to Madison Ave.

rainy days

It rained all weekend here, which made for a quiet weekend. After dinner with friends that were visiting from NYC on Friday, we pretty much stayed in and enjoyed the rain falling outside. We did make a quick trip out to our favorite local burger spot, Hopdoddy. I'm loving the cooler temperatures. I hope I'm not being tricked into believing it's Fall...maybe it is coming early this year.

if you're gone

It's been so busy ever since we returned from vacation in Utah. I think Ryno and I had hopes of easing back into work and life again, but we pretty much have gone non-stop since we got back. It's all been super fun though, so that makes it worth it. We finally got to check out G'Raj Mahal near Rainey Street; it was really fun with great Indian food. We love Indian restaurants and G'Raj Mahal is all outdoor dining in a laid back atmosphere, which makes it pretty much perfect.

We also finally got to meet our friends' new puppy, Brisket. He is adorable, and Elton had the best time playing with him. I promise to snap some pics of him at future play dates and share. Ryno and I agreed that he looks like a cartoon dog, but we can't place which one. His face is so expressive, and when he pants his tongue droops from the side of his mouth...so cute!

This weekend one of my friends I met when I was 8 is going to be in town with her husband and sister. They are visiting from NYC, and I'm so excited to see them and spend time hanging out together.

Also, my mom had her birthday this week, so Happy Birthday Mom!

Lastly, the Friday music pick is going to be 'If You're Gone' by Matchbox 20, because I've been completely reliving the 90's music scene lately, not really sure why... nostalgia I guess. Also, I love some of their lyrics. My favorite in this one is "I bet you're hard to get over, I bet the room just won't shine," ...pure gold. Have a great weekend!

a rosy complexion

I recently changed up my make-up routine, mostly for the Texas summer heat. However, I'm happy with the change and may keep it up through the fall. Instead of using powders I started using Smashbox bb cream paired with cheek butter. I'm using the Korres Cheek Butter in the shade Philia Rose. I like the dewiness of the cream and cheek butter together. It is a lot less coverage than I'm use to, which is saying something since I typically wear little make-up. It's been perfect for our hot summer, very light and easy.

the beehive state

Utah State Capitol

We're back from our vacation to Utah! Did you know their emblem is the beehive? Neither Ryno or I had ever been to Utah before, so we explored a lot on our trip. We flew into Salt Lake City on Wednesday. The first place we went was Red Butte Gardens on The University of Utah's campus. It was a really nice garden; they took full advantage of the mountain views and had an amazing fragrance garden full of hummingbirds. Thursday morning we went to the state capitol and the Family History Library. I love libraries, so when the Family History Center was listed in the top five attractions I felt a need to at least see it. Little did I know I would be completely sucked in by the library. When you arrive the staff assigns you a helper to get you started on their computer system. Essentially, the entire reason you go is to work on researching your family tree. For some reason I thought this would involve books and paper documents to rifle through, however, it's primarily through ancestry.com. Ryno and I found census documents on our families that would lead to other family members. Our plan to only stay thirty minutes turned into two hours. Our helper was in his sixties and he had a great sense of humor that made the experience really fun for us. After we wrapped up our research we headed to Park City, Utah. Ryno's college friend, Matthew, was having his wedding there.

The wedding was really beautiful; the ceremony took place on a mountain in Park City. The reception followed at The Sky Lodge, and it was so fun and full of shenanigans. I don't have any photos, since so many of our friends were taking pictures, but I'll share some when I get them. It was so much fun to see  our friends from school, and we had a great time visiting with everyone over the long weekend!

labor day weekend

Ryno and I have had a fun time visiting with family over the past week. We've pretty much hit up every  big Austin attraction and squeezed in a trip to San Antonio too. While in San Antonio we were able to explore the King William District, which is a historic neighborhood next to the Pioneer Flour factory. The homes were all very unique and the streets were the wide southern streets that I love. We stopped on a little bridge off one of the main streets to take some photos and enjoy the views.

We're enjoying visiting with family and friends this past week and weekend. I hope you are all enjoying your weekends as well.
