friends and flowers

Yesterday a good friend stopped by with a beautiful bouquet of basil and flowers. Then today my sister came over and helped me make this red bean chili recipe. It's been a nice week of spending time with friends and family.

It's official, we're home!

We spent the weekend really diving into making our new place our home. We did some more unpacking, my sister came over to help sort out where to hang artwork and a few friends stopped by to visit. We still have a lot of work ahead, but I can see it all coming together. I'm looking forward to spending some free time on Pinterest coming up with new ideas for our space. I've been spending a lot of time on West Elm's Pinterest page. They have an entire board dedicated to watermelons! Here are a few of my favorites from their boards. I hope you had a lovely weekend and a great start to your week!

Our dining set arrived for the new place, which was thrilling. We spent last night following the lovely pictograph directions to construct it. Neither Ryno nor I have ever actually bought a table before, so it was one of those monumental firsts in home ownership. To celebrate the new table, my sister came over and cooked with us. She brought with her the "Smitten Kitchen" cookbook, which has so many recipes I can't wait to try. We made the Wild Mushroom Tart, which was very tasty!

It seems like it's been a busy summer already, but this weekend my plans are primarily to hang artwork at our place and unpack a few more boxes. I hope you all have a relaxing weekend! The new song I heart is Delta Rae's song If I Loved You. In truth the video is a little bland, but the song is great. Enjoy!

weak in the knees

I have a weakness for anything with eyelets. My current obsession is the Chambray Eyelet Dress at Madewell. Typically, I go for all white fabric and eyelets, but Madewell in a complete moment of genius combined chambray and eyelets... love! I am definitely going to stop by Madewell this week and try it out. I'll keep you posted!

the plumb line

Ryno's brother bought a collection of vintage tools. The majority of the tools were made in America sometime around the early 1900's. The craftsmanship that went into the making the tools is absolutely beautiful. The hand saws all have intricate carving in the handles and circular medallions with the manufacturers' brand imprinted on them. It was so much fun to look through them all laid out in order. By far, my favorite was the plumb tool; isn't it pretty?

just a minute...

While the idea behind just a minute is to share a snippet of information, I wanted to say I know I took over a month off without warning, but I plan to be back regularly now. Ryno and I had a very busy end to June and start to July, so now we're playing a bit of catch up.

So here is just a minute in July...

Making... a dish called Peruvian Wedding Cake for dinner

Reading... instruction manuals for necessities like blinds.

Listening... to The Rolling Stones, "Beast of Burden"

Loving... our new home!

Waiting... for my sister to move to Austin tomorrow!

Wishing... for the rain to keep falling.
