will hoge

I had a really nice lunch today with a good friend of mine from college. When we were Juniors in school we went to see Lisa Loeb play at Smith's Olde Bar in Atlanta, and the opening act was Will Hoge.  At that time he was a rock musician. Since then he has transitioned to country music, and his new album, Never Give In, has received a lot of play time on the local country music stations. I've been enjoying hearing him on the radio, and I thought it would be nice to share some of his new music. I chose the song "Strong," because I love his lead in to it. I think we can all relate to some piece of this with our own fathers. I particularly love the line, "It's a dirt road lesson talkin to his kids." It completely reminds me of days that my dad would drop me off at high school. I hope you enjoy it!

I'm so excited to start this three day weekend! Have a great Labor Day!

mayeux + broussard

A friend of mine had a house party last weekend, and he managed to line up three bands for the night. The line up was really interesting, because every band had a very different style from the others. My favorite for the evening by far was Mayeux & Broussard a Country/Americana band from Austin. We found out they were playing at White Horse this past Wednesday, so I took Ryno out to see them. He really enjoyed their show too, and we did a little two-stepping. The dance floor was packed throughout their entire set. They are such an entertaining band, and their enthusiasm for the music is really evident. Definitely check them out if you have the chance!

nylabones

Elton is obsessed with Nylabones. My mother-in-law suggested them to us when he was a puppy, and he's been a fan ever since! Last year our friend, Ashley, gave Elton a couple of Nylabones in the shape of dinosaurs for Christmas. He seems to love them even more than those that are in bone form. Today we surprised him with a new batch and you can see the result... pure joy! Bonus: These little guys are made in the USA.

ain't no cure

I unintentionally took last week off from paperwildflower; let's call it my summer vacation. I started my weekend off with a co-worker's birthday lunch on Friday followed by another co-worker's art show Saturday. The art show had a great band line-up, and we had a really fun time! Everyone was two-stepping to Mayeux-Broussard.  I definitely recommend checking them out if you have a chance!

jessica andrews

Another set of friends moved away this week. Seriously ya'll this has to stop! The one silver lining is that Tiffany and Brad stayed with us on their last night in town, so we were able to have a going away movie night at our place. Our double-date tradition has been dinner and movies, so it was the perfect send off. We're so sad to see them leave, but we can't wait to visit them in CA soon!

(photos I took of their wedding)

Seemed like the best way to say farewell (for now) would be with a country hit that both Tiff and I love. Hit it Jessica Andrews!

emily mcdowell

Back in June I mentioned that I came across a stationary artist that was new to me, Emily McDowell. Since then I discovered my favorite local bookstore stocks her cards, and I had a completely nerdy, gushing moment with the sales person about how excited I was to see they were carrying her line. I bought three cards on the spot, and I'm already planning out which ones I'll get next. I had to be a bit strategic with the framing for the picture as the wording isn't appropriate for all ages, which is of course what makes them amazing!

chocolate on chocolate

My Dad had a birthday a couple weeks ago, and I wanted to share some photos of the amazing chocolate, butter-cream cake my Mom and sister created for the occasion. It was delicious and gigantic; they had to freeze half of it!

Happy belated birthday Dad!

leafy greens

Our time this weekend was mostly divided between yard work and helping some friends pack up for a big move. A few things needed to be refreshed in the garden, so Ryno and I trekked to three different nurseries to find just what we wanted. In the end we added a purple passion vine, hot banana pepper plants, roses and some small sedge. We also rigged a quick wire trellis for the passion vine. It was so exciting to accomplish so much, and I'll share photos once things start to take off.

I also made a few improvements around the house. I'm still working on the salon wall composition, but I've added a few accessories and indoor plants too!
