weekend improvements

I hope everyone had a lovely weekend. The weekend here started off a bit hairy. The weather was a little disappointing Saturday, gray and misting. Then Sunday it was cloudy, but eventually the sky cleared up and there were lovely breezes. Ryno and I spent most of the weekend catching up on sleep, driving around Austin searching for our next place of residence and organizing our lives. I started with the goal of cleaning out my blog reader. I am so far behind with some of my favorite blogs, so I thought it would be rewarding to catch up. Of course I got distracted along the way by one of the blogs I was reading, and instead ended up developing a menu-plan system for us. I found a great post from Simple Mom that lays out how she structures her menu-plan, and I decided to follow it word for word. So now Ryno and I have themed meals for each night of the week, and I have started saving recipes for us to reference. Tonight, otherwise known as fish night, we are going with Martha Stewarts's Salmon with Mango Salsa recipe. I am really excited to get us back into a routine (hopefully); I will let you all know how we do with the planning.

ps- this photo is not of the salmon with mango salsa recipe, but doesn't it look delicious?

Last weekend

Well, I hope you all are enjoying your weekend so far! I decided to use this weekend to catch up here and in other areas of my life as I have been a bit behind with everything since work has been so busy for both me and Ryno. Any downtime we had over the past week was spent with Elton at the dog park or hunting for our new home. One of our favorite parks to take him to is Riverside Park at Auditorium Shores. He loves finding the largest dog at the park and playing keep-away for hours. Here are some photos from last weekend, it was beautiful in Austin. Unfortunately, all of the photos of Elton were blurry as he doesn't slow down once he is off the leash. Maybe I will have better luck next time, enjoy!

Our dinner spot that night...Torchy's Trailer Park.

Then if Saturday wasn't lovely enough, we were fortunate to have beautiful weather on Sunday. This meant that Elton was able to go to his play group, which we followed up with lunch outside. After lunch Ryno ran me downtown to meet a friend for an afternoon of touring museums for Free! The downtown museums have free Sundays, and we had a lot of fun checking them out. We went to arthouse and Mexic-Arte Museum.

Cupcakes & Love

So my sis was just in NYC last week, and she snapped this photo for me. She said the cupcake was meant for me had there been a good way to send it. I absolutely love it, how adorable is a pink cupcake for Barbie from Ken! Plus it's from Magnolia Bakery and you really can't go wrong with their cupcakes!

Also, speaking of love and Valentine's (still), I just found out today that my best friend from when I was in 1st grade just got engaged! Congratulations to her and her fiance! I'm so happy for them!

Valentine's Continued

As some of you know, I never got the baking/cooking gene. My sister very much did, and both of my parents are amazing cooks. I however struggle with anything beyond grilled cheese and tacos. Therefore; Ryno is the cook of our family. Another thing you may or may not know about me is that I love holidays. I love to make holidays and birthdays last closer to a week than a day. So today, in honor of my week of Valentine's, I made Ryno chocolate covered strawberries.

Also, here is what we got each other. I got him a mustache mug, which you may have seen me talk about on this blog before. Ryno got me a hydrangea plant. Isn't it lovely? I am planning to get a fun little pot for it to grow in.

Hiking & Biking

After the Friday snow everything turned sunny and gorgeous. The weather all weekend was 60s and 70s. Ryno, Elton and I took full advantage of the brief but beautiful weather. We spent Saturday hiking and biking at Zilker Park. Then Sunday we spoiled Elton and took him to two different dog parks. In the morning he was able to play with his other Boston Terrier friends, and in the afternoon we took him to Riverside to work on his off leash skills. He did a great job off leash; he listened really well. It was a big moment for us, because the first time we took him to Riverside Ryno and I spent the entire time chasing after him.

Here are some photos I snapped on my android phone of our weekend.

He was so intrigued by the water below.

I can't believe that it actually snowed in Austin. I remember it snowed once in San Antonio when I lived there as a kid, and I remember that it was a really big deal. The fact that we got more than a light dusting of snow here truly surprised me, and the fact that I actually wasn't able to drive to work this morning came as another big surprise. However, Ryno and I made the best of the snow day by staying warm inside with Elton except for our one venture out to TacoDeli to pick up lunch. Thank goodness for queso!

Also, I realized I never told you what Ryno got me for my birthday...Hunter boots! Today was my first day breaking them out, so I snapped a quick photo to share. They are perfect, and they keep my feet super cozy! Aren't they lovely?

Birthday Surprises

I got the best little surprise in the mail today. My friend Laura sent me a birthday present and a sweet little card. Elton loved my surprise almost as much as I did!

Love is in the air

I noticed today that Valentine's Day is everywhere already. I have seen lots of cute, inspirational ideas on several blogs today. Plus I keep coming across so many adorable cards in stores. Of course, with Paper Source opening here in Austin on Friday (yay!!!) I may have to show some self control and wait to see what cute cards they have stocked for the holiday. However, the one card that is really calling my name is Anna Bond's card from Rifle Paper Co. that is being sold at Anthropologie. Below is the full size print version, but there is also a card version of it too. However, you could always order the print to win extra bonus points from your significant other or attach it to poster-board folded in half to make an extra large V-day card! How sweet would that be?

Groundhog Day

Did you hear, both Punxsutawney Phil from Pennsylvania and Staten Island Chuck in New York did not see their shadows? Spring will come early according to the groundhogs. I for one hope they are right! I am a bit skeptical though considering the weather report says we will have snow in Austin Friday afternoon. Still I'm holding out for spring. I can't wait for the blue bonnets to bloom. They are my absolute favorite flower!

Come Back Sunshine

How I miss the warm days of this past weekend. We bought Ryno a bike he was able to ride in the lovely sunshine and Elton was able to have lots of play time outside. Please come back sunshine & warmth; we want to play! I hope you all are having a great first day of February!
