design seeds

Have you ever seen the site Design Seeds? I've become pretty obsessed with it. Their tag line is "find the palettes you love," and it's addictive once you start looking. Basically, there are several ways you can search for a palette whether through color value, theme or just browsing the images. They pull color values out of images and make an art board of the image with the color swatches. It's a really great way to look at colors, because you can see how you feel about the colors easily through the photo.

Here are a few of my holiday favorites. Happy Christmas Eve!

A little holiday music to start the weekend!

baby boston

Ryno shared this video with me tonight, and I thought it was so adorable. We watched several similar videos before we got Elton, and I hoped the same thing would happen with him as a puppy. However, he only lost his balance once, and it was really minor just a back foot hovering in the air for a second.

I came across this video while I was browsing my reader this weekend. I think it's a brilliant move by Red Bull to promote their brand. They filmed surfers in a cranberry farm performing different tricks, but I really loved the first bit when they explain how they harvest cranberries. I never knew how that process worked, but it seems very fun.

love actually

"Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends." – Hugh Grant, Love Actually

I spent my weekend writing Christmas cards and watching Love Actually. It's a favorite holiday movie of mine. Also, the opening quote spoken by Hugh Grant is always inspiring to me, and it helps me feel hope. Otherwise, we mostly laid-low knowing that this next weekend would be so busy with Christmas.

We did get out of the house to run a few errands though, and Elton came along for the ride. He is only now learning the thrill of sticking his head out the window, which is hilarious. I think he was supposed to have figured it out long before he was three, but it never appealed to him before. The hilarious part is that he is so excited anytime he has the opportunity to have his ears flap in the wind, yet he is so hesitant to fully commit to the idea. I really don't blame him for being cautious, because he is so poorly balanced with his huge head. I always keep a gentle hold on him whenever he gets brave enough to try it. However, sometimes I have to snap a photo as well; it's just so cute how he rests his chin on the window ledge for balance. The first few times I thought maybe he couldn't really reach past the ledge, but then I realized he ducks down and sets his chin on the ledge no matter what. It's sort of like a kid holding onto the wall the first time they try out roller skates.

ps- His foot is only up because I set it there trying to encourage him to stand up a bit.

let's have a kiki

I was so excited to see SJP on Glee last week, especially because she performed "Let's Have a Kiki" by the Scissor Sisters. My friend Justin introduced me to the song when he sent me the videodrome version, which is pretty fantastic if you don't mind fake butts, swearing and such. However, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to share Glee's version, considering SJP is dressed to the nines in it. Isn't her dress amazing? I love her!

gregory crewdson

I have loved photography since my first yellow, Kodak camera I got when I was three. My parents were always so supportive of the hobby, buying me a plethora of film and developing endless amounts of zoo animal photographs. In college I took a couple of photography classes. Very old school, film and dark room developing; it was wonderful! One photographer that really stuck with me from my college class was Gregory Crewdson. I think his work is fantastic, so I thought I would share the preview of the new documentary, Gregory Crewdson Brief Encounters. I can't wait for it to come to Texas!

Happy Monday! Ryno and I managed to accomplish quite a bit from out "to do" list over the weekend, but it's December so I still feel behind. Friday, when I was still feeling like the weekend stretched out before my I saw this article about the NY times hollywood issue. I really enjoyed the video about the female hollywood heroines; it's pretty stunning.

Friday night we went to Ryno's holiday party, which was on a rooftop downtown. It was a lot of fun to visit with his co-workers and see a new spot in the city. Then yesterday we had some friends over. They have a sweet Boston Terrier too, so the pups got to play and wear each other out. It was pretty hilarious!

joni mitchell

Our collar and leash arrived for Elton today. I'll try to snap some photos of him wearing it this weekend; he looks even more adorable than usual with it on. Ryno and I have a long list of home projects to tackle this weekend. I am hoping to get a lot of it knocked out. We also have his Christmas party for work, which I'm looking forward to. Last year I got to hang out in a teepee; it was awesome!

I'm going easy and classic with Joni Mitchell today, which was inspired by a favorite holiday movie of mine, Love Actually.

I love her [Joni Mitchell] and true love lasts a lifetime.

lost and found

Yesterday when I came home this cute pup was hanging out on my patio.

He wondered into our yard after lunch, and Ryno said he came right up to him. Since he didn't have a name or number on his collar, we had to walk door to door asking neighbors if they recognized him. He was really well-trained and super friendly, however, none of our neighbors had ever seen him. We decided to leave our block to try another street. We were standing on the side of the road trying to decide where to go next when a woman shouted out her car window that it was her pup. We were glad to help reunite the owner and her dog. However, what we didn't say but wish we had was that a name tag would have helped get him home much sooner.

In the spirit of useful dog accessories I thought I would share a collar we just ordered for Elton, and the style of name tag we use for him.

david bazan

We spent the weekend focused on the holidays. We did a little holiday decorating and shopping. We picked out a Rosemary Christmas tree this year, so that we can plant it in the Spring. Also it smells delicious.

Saturday night we went to see David Bazan at The Parish. It was a great show, and Ryno really enjoyed seeing his favorite artist play. I did sit for some of the show, which is why the photo I have is behind the sound engineer's box.

I hope to be here more consistently again, now that I'm back in town. Sorry for the spotty sharing lately.

home again

It's nice to be back in Austin. Yesterday the weather was wild, it actually reached 80 degrees. Today, has been a reality check with grey skies and the temperature hovering around the 50's...brrrrrrr! While we were home in Virginia for the holiday we day-tripped to Pennsylvania to have lunch with my sister at the cafe in Terrain. It was a fun trip, and I enjoyed seeing Terrain decorated for the holidays.

Before the trip home, I was in Tennessee for work. While I was there a few friends and I stopped by Imogene and Willie, the denim brand based in Nashville. The store was fantastic, and everyone was so friendly and helpful. The best part is that they tailor your jeans while you wait. It's definitely a fun spot to visit if you find yourself in Nashville.

ps- I bought the green bowls..love!

Happy Thanksgiving

I've been away on a work trip, and now I'm enjoying being home with family. I hope you are enjoying your holiday too whether you are celebrating with family or friends. I'll start posting again on Monday. Until then I'm off to have some turkey.

This weekend Ryno and I went around to the East Austin Studio Tours put on by Big Medium every year. I've gone all three years that we have been in Austin, and I always find it really inspiring. We kicked off the weekend with an EAST event at Domy books. Our friend, Brad, was the dj for a magazine release party. Sunday we went around to a bunch of studios and stopped by a friend's place to see her work. If you are planning to go next weekend, I would recommend stopping by Pump Project's studio space; they had a lot of variety within the artists and their work.

the rolling stones

One time Ryno's brother asked me if I could be a member of The Beatles or The Rolling Stones which would I choose. I quickly answered "The Stones." I love The Rolling Stones, and they have written several of my favorite songs. I was obsessed with "Beast of Burden" in college and now it's a toss up between "Wild Horses" and "You Can't Always Get What You Want." Today, I thought I would share a recording of "Wild Horses" from the 90's. Happy weekend!

Did you vote today? Ryno and I voted early a couple weekends ago, and we're watching the results coming in tonight. If you're like me and plan to catch up on your reader as you watch the polls close, I recommend checking out this tumblr (so fun) if you're in to Downton Abbey. Also, did you see Beyonce got an instagram account and shared this photo?

weekend hikes and hope floats

Ryno and I had a nice weekend of exploring. We woke up Saturday both wanting to get out and see something new. We thought it would be great to check out some parks in the area, however, it turns out a lot of the local parks don't allow dogs. Since we wanted to take Elton along, that was a deal breaker. We finally decided on Bastrop State Park, which was hit hard with wildfires last summer. I guess I expected more of the park to have recovered by this point, which I realized was pretty naive once we arrived. Everything is still black from the fires, and while there is some new growth on the ground, hardly any of the trees have pine needles on them. It was eerie and fascinating at the same time.

Check out Elton's little backpack we bought him for hiking. He carried his own snacks; it was adorable and he didn't mind it at all.

After our hike, we went to find lunch in Smithville, TX. The barbecue place we wanted to try was closed, so we headed to downtown Bastrop. Smithville is the town where Hope Floats was filmed. I LOVE Hope Floats, and I've been wanting to visit Smithville since we moved to Austin. It was very cute!

j tillman

Now performing as Father John Misty. Ryno and I went to The Mohawk earlier this year with some friends to see him perform. The show was fantastic and so unbelievably entertaining. Since then Ryno and I have been listening to his new album Fear Fun. He's made some new music videos for the album, but I wanted to share this video from KXEP in Seattle, because he plays a small set and discusses his work as well. It's a great introduction to his music if you haven't heard it before, and a fun way to watch him perform if you are already familiar. I hope you enjoy it and have a wonderful weekend! We are going to be celebrating Ryno's brother's birthday this weekend!

rainbow brite

I missed posting yesterday, but I didn't want to skip sharing my favorite Halloween costume ever! Rainbow Brite...kind of amazing, right? It was a hand-me-down costume from my sister (she wore it the year before), but I was so excited when I got to wear it to my preschool Halloween party. I just learned recently that my dad made it for us, I always had assumed my mom made it because she worked on most of our costumes from other Halloweens. Our family always went all out for Halloween; it's definitely a favorite holiday of mine, so Happy belated Halloween!

le parfait

Ryno and I stopped by the Container Store this weekend. It's a favorite of mine, and I could easily be there for hours. One of my big obsessions is their mason jar selection. I particularly love the French brand Le Parfait. I bought one of their Super Jars this weekend for our sugar. Next on my glass jar wish list is the Vintage Milk Glass Bottle and the Hermetic Glass Bottle.

utah wedding

In early September, I posted about the week vacation we spent in Utah for our friend's wedding. Peter & Matt were married on a gorgeous lookout point at Park City Mountain Resort. We had such a great weekend, and the entire wedding was so beautiful. Ryno and I didn't take any photos after we left Salt Lake City; I still really can't explain what we were thinking. Fortunately, our friend, Erin Cordell, took some gorgeous photos of all the weekend festivities, and she was sweet enough to let me share them here. I hope you all enjoy them. Thanks again Erin!

say anything

Tristan Prettyman's album Twentythree has popped up a couple of times on my Pandora reminding me that I love her song "Simple." I was looking for a video of it to share when I saw she just released a new album on October 2nd. Today, I'm sharing "Say Anything" with you for your weekend. Have a great weekend and happy birthday to my mother-in-law!

Elton gets a hoodie

new hoodie

It was so nice this weekend with some cooler air pushing through. A couple years ago Elton outgrew his Winter coat, so this Fall I decided we would need to upgrade his outerwear. Yes, I bought him a hoodie! Surprisingly, he doesn't hate it. He did look a little perturbed when I snapped a photo of him in it. Also, not only is there a hood, but it has a pocket on his back. Doesn't he look like a young adult?

hey mrs potter

Ryno and I have been trying to sort through all of our boxes from moving. It's been a year since we sold our house and moved everything from Alabama, so I'm really at a point where I want to be more organized. During this process, I found some old cd's, one in particular that I made the week Ryno and I started dating. My favorite song on it is Mrs. Potters Lullaby by Counting Crows...so GOOD! I've been playing it non-stop, so I thought I would share it knowing I'll be listening to it all weekend. Plus you have to love a good 90's video. Have a great weekend, I'm off to try on more bridesmaid dresses!

ps- favorite lines:

american books

Back in September my sister sent me a link to an exhibition at The Library of Congress. The exhibition titled Books That Shaped America has passed now, but you can still look online at the pieces that were included. The purpose was to display books by American authors that have impacted Americans or influenced our perception of American life. The books included date from 1750 to 2002, and I enjoyed flipping through the titles. I noticed a few from high school English that were never a favorite of mine, however, I also came across a few titles I've added to my list to read. I think it's nice they included descriptions of the individual importance for every book. What books do you feel most shaped America? My favorite book from the list has to be Great Gatsby, by F. Scott Fitzgerald.

going greek

Last year Ryno and I received a stay at a local resort. It was so fun, and one of the best parts to me was the breakfast included in our stay. The dining room looked out into a wooded hillside, and it was packed with the most delicious spread of breakfast creations. One of the treats Ryno picked towards the end of our feast of pancakes, eggs and salmon bagels was a yogurt parfait. I would never make such a sensible choice. In fact, until that moment, I don't think I had ever had yogurt parfait. Yogurt, yes. Parfait, no. Turns out I like it very much, and since that day I've been wanting to recreate it for my morning breakfast. This week I bought Greek yogurt for my parfait base. I also mixed in honey, blueberries and granola. Unfortunately, it turns out I don't like Greek yogurt at all, not even a little. I've determined that I am going to like it, and my plan is to find recipes to incorporate it into until I like it. Here are a couple on my pinterest to try.

friends & photographs

Lisa & me in Italy during college

Our friends Lisa & Robby were visiting us in Austin this weekend from Houston. Lisa and I met when we studied abroad in college. We also road-tripped to watch Georgia Tech play in the Final Four in San Antonio. After that we lived together for a little over a year in North Carolina. We've been all over the country and most of Europe together, and now we are both in Texas together. It's been so much fun having them so close to us, even though we don't get together quite as often as we would like.

I really enjoyed the weekend, because I played engagement photographer and dress up, trying on a bunch of gorgeous dresses. We planned this weekend with the goal of knocking out a few of the "to-do's" on their wedding list. Lisa wanted to get a photo for their save-the-date card, and she also wanted to find bridesmaid dresses. We managed to get a nice engagement photo for them, but the dress still needs to be finalized. I wanted to share some of the photos we took with you and maybe a dress photo or two!

ps- I don't want to steal their save-the-date thunder, so I didn't include the photo they will use. I will share it once it's printed!

the band perry

It's Friday! I'm excited to relax and hang out with Ryno tonight. We have friends coming in town tomorrow for a visit, and we're going to do a little photo shoot with them. I'm excited to scout out some locations, and I hope I can pull out some of my college photography skills.

I've been wanting to share The Band Perry for awhile. I like their music, but I was looking for a video that was a little more toned down. I think this cut of "All Your Life" is simple and well made. Hope you enjoy and have a lovely weekend!

20 years

Yesterday, I mentioned I've been a bit out of it, but I didn't realize how much I missed until I caught up on my google reader stories. I watched the Presidential debate last week, and I heard President Obama wish Michelle a happy anniversary. However, I completely missed the video his campaign put out to celebrate their day; it's Adorable with a capital "A." I understand it's a political video, but all they have accomplished as a couple in their 20 years is certainly something to celebrate. Also, I love the styling of the video. The large wooden booth they sit in sharing sundaes is so perfectly Washington, D.C.

hot chocolate

Belgian hot chocolate to be exact...

At the end of last week I noticed I wasn't feeling up to my best and by the weekend I was completely under the weather. I missed work yesterday and fought through it today. Therefore, I don't have much to share from our weekend. Ryno cheered for his beloved Reds during their two games against the Giants this weekend, and I either slept or watched rom-coms.

As for the hot chocolate, it's one of two things I want when I'm ill, the other is grilled cheese. I requested both from Ryno this weekend, and I found this recipe for Belgian hot chocolate that he (very sweetly) made for me. I know for certain hot chocolate is not the healthiest thing to have when your sick, but to me it's a fun treat and the warm milk soothes my throat. What do you love when you're not feeling your best?

for him

One of my favorite Pinterest boards is the one labeled "for him." I love shopping men's style, and I enjoy putting together inspiration that I think fits Ryno's style and personality. Today, I thought I would share a couple of pins I pulled for him.

weekend festivities

We kicked off the weekend with a friend's backyard dinner party. Then Saturday we attended a birthday celebration before heading downtown for the Jackie Greene show at The Parish. It was a really great show with a fun crowd. Jackie jumped between guitar, organ and harmonica. His organ playing was really impressive and not something you see every day, which made me appreciate it even more. He said a couple of times during the show that they would be returning to Texas soon; I'll definitely be keeping a look out for their next Austin performance.
