Tonight we are out at an ACL taping of the civil wars...I will share how it went tomorrow!

orla kiely

Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to watch the red carpet as promised. However, I did spend some time pouring over the new Orla Kiely Spring/Summer 2012 lookbook. I love the simple color palette of creams, reds, blacks and blues. It feels very fresh with vintage silhouettes. Here are a few of my favorites from the line. Don't you think the swimsuit is just the sweetest?

case of the mondays

It was a dreary afternoon in Austin and everyone seemed a bit tired...maybe it was all that late night Oscar watching. Ryno and I are watching our recorded version tonight, and I managed to not spoil any of the wins for myself today! I'll be back tomorrow to talk red carpet as I also avoided looking at that today, so I could have a fresh viewing tonight. Hope you had a great weekend!

oh my sweet carolina

Today, I want to share two videos. First, Oh My Sweet Carolina, by Ryan Adams featuring Laura Marling. It gives the background of how Laura impacted Ryan's most recent album 'Ashes & Fire.' Then, the song All My Rage by Laura Marling.

I love gaining insite into what inspires musicians I like, so I really enjoyed the intro discussion with Ryan in the video. I hope you enjoy! Happy weekend!

Also, Happy Birthday to my sis! Love you!

summer swimwear

Ryno says the weather news is that a Blue Norther is pushing through our area, which means wintery winds are headed our direction. Even though we are finally getting some winter weather, I'm still planning trips to explore some Texas swim holes once summer arrives. With swimming in mind, I thought I would share some of my favorite pieces from Olasul's new men's swimwear collection. Ryno prefers a board short, so I think some of these more updated board short styles would be great for him.

Have a great weekend and stay warm!

Downton Abbey

Did you watch the Downton Abbey finale on Sunday? I am pretty obsessed with the show and was excited to see a few of my wishes come true at the end of Season 2. Apparently, Shirley McLaine has signed on for Season 3 and is cast as Lady Grantham's mother. My favorite character is Lady Mary Crawley (Michelle Dockery), and I am looking forward to see how her fashion changes when they start Season 3 in the 1920's.

feathered friends

Ryno and I had a nice relaxing weekend at home. We spent Saturday night at our friends' home having dinner and watching our pups play. Their Boston Terrier and Elton are best friends and are super adorable when they play together. We also went to see the new cartoon, The Secret World of Arrietty. Ryno and I enjoy animated kids films and usually see them in the theatre. We especially wanted to see this one because Amy Poehler and Will Arnett are the voices of Arrietty's parents in the film. I enjoyed the movie, but had hoped it would be a bit lighter and funnier.

I also spent part of the weekend sketching out some ideas for a fingerprint guestbook for Ryno's co-worker. She is getting married in a couple of months and is wanting a peacock themed fingerprint guestbook. I had a lot of fun working on the sketches and thought I would share what I have so far. The feathers will be filled with fingerprints. I'll share more images as I develop them further. ps- I cropped out their names & wedding date for privacy.

I hope your weekend was relaxing too! Have a great start to your week!

fine by me

Happy Friday! I'm so glad the weekend has arrived; it's been a bit of a hectic week here. It's raining in Austin, and I plan to take full advantage of the chance to stay indoors and just relax with Ryno. I heard on my way home that Andy Grammer is playing at Stubb's on Sunday. To be honest, I've heard his song Keep Your Head Up, otherwise I wasn't that aware of him. The radio played Fine By Me, which I thought was a cute song. I checked out his videos and while they are a bit cheesy I thought it would be a fun way to start the I like some cheese now and again. Don't you? If you too enjoy a cheesy video, I would recommend watching the video for Keep Your Head Up. Rainn Wilson from The Office is in it; you can see it here. Have a great weekend!

love light

I am a day late sharing the photos of my Valentine surprise for Ryno. I tried to photograph it a few different ways, but these turned out the best. I wanted it to still be lit even in the daylight photo, so I hope it is clear. I built Ryno a box from some wood boards we had at our house. Then I drilled holes so the lights enclosed in the box would shine Love when lit. It was a pretty simple project, and I used a string of Christmas lights to keep the box from getting too hot. Even so, we agreed not to leave it lit for more than a couple of hours at a time. It makes a great night light in our room, and I loved completely surprising him!

love languages

Also, if you haven't seen this video yet it made me and Ryno smile. I love you in 100 languages...

Happy Valentine's!

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope whatever the day holds for you it is filled with love and joy! I'll be back tomorrow to share what I made for Ryno for Valentine's.

vineyards with friends

We had a really nice weekend visiting with our friends, Taylor & Sarah, who were in town for the weekend. We drove to meet them at Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood, TX on Saturday. After lunch we all went to a nearby vineyard, The Duchman Family Winery, for a tasting. It was a really beautiful vineyard, and the tasting was really interesting. Ryno and I plan to go back once the grapes are in season to see everything when it is growing. For now we came home with our two favorite styles to enjoy until our next trip.

Did you all watch The Grammy's? Ryno and I cheered when Bon Iver won for best new artist. I thought it was also great to see Adele take home so many Grammy's. Her voice is amazing; I loved her performance.

photos from my android...also Taylor was the only one to humor me in the first photo and made a wine snob face.

Are you watching the Grammys this Sunday? After a performance from a few years ago that will remain anonymous, Ryno and I swore off the Grammys. Most of the artists we follow aren't nominated, so we lost enthusiasm for it. However, NPR has been sharing some of the nominated artists this past week, and they said both Bon Iver and Mumford and Sons received nominations. I'm excited to watch them and cheer for our favorites. As a little preview I want to share the Bon Iver song that is my current obsession. I thought I couldn't love their song Holocene anymore until I watched the video. The images and textures in the video are so beautiful. I love the green landscape and black beaches. Also, the reference to childhood wonder is a lovely idea. I hope you enjoy it. Have a great weekend!

big hearts

Valentine's is approaching so quickly, just a week away! I am still searching for some cute Valentine's stationery. Here are a few of my favorites...

pillow talk

This weekend Ryno and I accomplished quite a few tasks that were on our to-do list. One of those tasks being to make or buy new throw pillows. We decided to do a bit of both. We bought plain white pillow inserts at IKEA, and I sewed pillow covers for them out of linen. Ryno and I plan to find a design to print on the linen covers next, and I will share photos once that project is finished. For now here are some inspiration photos for the possible patterns.

I am really loving the idea of stenciling some text onto the pillows. There is a great DIY for text on pillows here. Also, if you want the pattern I used to make the pillow covers, I got it here. Enjoy!

clem snide

Ryno and I heard a Journey cover by Clem Snide the other day and absolutely loved it. I decided it was necessary to find out if they covered any other Journey songs. As it turns out they have an album of Journey covers and it is a fantastic album. I personally love Journey's lyrics and think the slowed down version by Clem Snide makes them all the better. You can check out the Don't Stop Believin' cover performed by Eef Barzelay in the video below, and if you love it you can find it here.

What are your weekend plans? Ryno and I are hoping to catch a movie and get little man out to the dog park for some playtime. Have a happy weekend!

mardi gras

When I was a kid we spent a few years living in Louisiana. Since then I have a serious weakness for King Cake (and beignets). Tonight, Ryno and I went in search of the colorful cake and found one at Central Market. I wish they were sold year round; I just love them!

Not to get ahead of myself, but the weather is gorgeous here and it makes me think of long summer days, sun kissed colors and pretty blankets to fall asleep on at the beach.
