like a glove

Today was my first day back to running, since I got sick. It was perfect timing, because I also got the Glove barefoot running shoes by Merrell in the mail today for my birthday. I ran my regular routine with them, and I really love how they feel. I'm excited to continue adjusting my form to the barefoot style. Ryno and I also went to pick out some running clothes this weekend, so we're looking very official on our runs now. I'm planning on reading some more about the training for barefoot running. I've watched a few videos on the Merrell site so far. Have you ever done barefoot running? Do you have a preference of barefoot versus traditional styles?

I've been a bit under the weather, which is why there wasn't a true weekend update yesterday. My apologies. I spent the weekend under a blanket watching the old tv show Felicity. Did you ever watch it? I was obsessed when I was in high school. My dream was to move to New York, attend art school and possibly even work at Dean & Deluca. I loved Keri Russel's curly hair and casual wardrobe of over-sized sweaters. I thought it was pure genius that she sent her mentor, Sally, taped messages with updates of her life rather than letters. At the time, I also didn't see a flaw in the practice of exchanging tapes, but now it would be nearly impossible to find something that you could use to play them back. While there are parts that definitely seem a little "after-school-special" to me now, I still love the show. I love the relationships, the conversations between Sally and Felicity and I love that they had desktop computers and notebooks rather than laptops. Were you a fan of the show too? I always secretly root for Keri Russel and hope she'll land another great series.

jane austen

Happy 200th anniversary "Pride and Prejudice!" I'm sure I've mentioned it here before, so you may be well aware of my absolute love of Jane Austen's novels. My favorite novel being "Pride and Prejudice." Today is the 200th anniversary, and I've come across some fun articles. I particularly enjoyed the ranking of actors who portrayed Mr. Darcy in this article. I'm happy that the author agrees that Colin Firth is by far the best Darcy ever! I admit that I'm a bit biased; I actually saw the A&E adaptation of the book before I ever read it. Therefore, I have always pictured Darcy as Colin Firth. I will be celebrating the anniversary this week by watching a few Jane Austen flicks.

bear creek

I have shared music by Brandi Carlile before, but I am completely enamored with her album "Bear Creek," so I thought I would share one of my favorites from the album today. The song Hard Way Home is so good, and I really love to listen to it when I run. It's got such great energy that it makes the run really fun. I hope you enjoy it. Have a great weekend!

austin terrier

It's been a gorgeous week here, and we've been enjoying a lot of time outdoors. Last night we tried a restaurant we've never been to before called Austin Terrier. It's set back in a neighborhood, and could easily be missed. Some friends that have a Boston Terrier mentioned it to us, so we thought it would be fun to check out. The restaurant is full of Boston Terrier imagery; stickers, paintings and window decals. Ryno and I shared their french fry trio and a pizza. The food was enjoyable, but the decor was definitely worth the visit.

happy happy happy

We celebrated my parents' 40th anniversary and my birthday this weekend. Saturday we all went two-stepping together. We went early to catch lessons, which proved really entertaining. They had us all split up and make a large circle, every time they taught us a new piece of the dance we would have to rotate partners. I think I had six or seven different partners. The funny part was my mom was right behind me, so everyone I danced with she danced with. The small talk I was having seemed to carry over to my mom and once our little group got back together we were laughing about the game of "telephone" that was basically happening on the dance floor. Also, I had a few vertically challenged partners that told my mom they were happy she was more their size. It was a really fun night, and I think we will be going back soon!

For the birthday/anniversary night we had a nice dinner and snapped some pictures together. Aren't my parents too cute! I love that they matched! Happy 40 years Mom and Dad!

Friday, January 18, 2013

This weekend we are celebrating my birthday along with my parents' 40th anniversary (they fall on the same day). You may ask what the gift is for a fortieth anniversary, and the answer is the ruby. I always think of Bridget Jones' Diary and Mark Darcy's parents' Ruby Wedding Celebration. We will be having a much smaller gathering; my parents, Ryno and I are all going to dinner together to celebrate. For my birthday, I requested a stained glass piece from my parents. Dad started the terrarium before they came to visit, and he put it together for me last night. We're going to pick out the succulents this weekend, I'm excited!

Also for my parents' anniversary, I thought I would share "their song."

happy birthday

As I mentioned on Friday, Ryno's birthday was this weekend. For his 30th birthday I surprised him and invited several of his friends from college to spend the weekend at our place in Austin. I wanted them to be able to enjoy a "boys weekend" trying out some local beer bars and enjoying lots of good local food. While I have fun checking out new bars with Ryno, I know I don't have the same appreciation for gourmet beers as all of his friends. It seemed like a great way for Ryno to explore some new spots in Austin while catching up with friends. The guys were all amazing in helping me keep the weekend a surprise, and I was so excited with how many of them were able to make it! On the last day I was able to snap some photos of the group. I hope they all come back soon, maybe during warmer weather so we can show them Barton Springs and the lakes!

Ryno's 30! I'm so excited to have his friends in town to celebrate with him, and I'll share more details on Monday. Until then, have a great weekend!

flower girl

Have you ever seen images from Flower Girl NYC's shop? I believe the first article I saw about her shop was here. I recently started following her on Pinterest, and I really love the images she has collected. I thought I would share a few. Doesn't it just make you want to live in a field of flowers?

photo booth

Ryno and I had a fun weekend with a nice mix of time out with friends and time at home. Saturday night he took me out dancing. I've been wanting to two-step since we moved to Austin, so we found a local spot and went to check it out. Once we got there we realized two-stepping wasn't going to be something we could easily pick-up. We danced one dance then agreed we would learn the dance and give it a shot another time. While we were there we noticed an original photo booth, and decided to snap some pics. I loved waiting for the pictures to print; it took 4 minutes for the machine to process and print the film. I remember when I was a kid the instantaneousness of photo booths was so exciting; it's funny that now waiting to see your printed pictures versus having something fast and digital is what's fun.

first aid kit

It's quite dreary in Austin today, and the rumor is it could snow at any moment. So far no snow, but lots of cold rain. I'm tucked under a blanket snuggled up with Elton, and I'm checking out some music that is new for me. How much do you love First Aid Kit?! Personally, I think a sister duo makes it even better. Happy weekend!

downton abbey

I've mentioned a few times that I love Downton Abbey, and today as I was leaving work I ran into my favorite actress from the show. She is absolutely lovely in person.

twenty thirteen

I love the start of a new year, and I'm really excited about the start of this one. Ryno and I have a lot of  exciting things planned for 2013. I hope you are having a great start to your year!
