kisses from Hershey

My friend, Amanda, and I have a standing weekly lunch date, but today was our last lunch. She and her family are moving back to Pennsylvania next week. Our lunches are always so fun, and I love visiting with her and her sweet, baby boy. Today we were discussing all of the Pennsylvania attractions, and I learned Hershey Chocolate has an amusement park called Hershey Park. I find it unbelievable that I have never heard of it before! It's definitely one more reason to to visit Pennsylvania, along with my sister lives there and two Austin friends have relocated to PA in the past month.

purple blooms

The Mountain Laurel is starting to bloom. They're one of my favorites, the purple color weighing down the branches is so beautiful.

the woodlands

My friend and roommate right out of college moved to The Woodlands, an area just outside of Houston, with her fiance a couple years ago. Her wedding is quickly approaching, so I agreed to be present at her last dress fitting to learn how to bustle her wedding dress. Ryno and I drove to Houston Saturday afternoon, and we were able to bring Elton along to play with her adorable pup, Pamplemousse. I attempted to get photos of them together, however, they are too fast. I always get one in focus and the other half out of the frame. Instead, I'll share photos of E exhausted from all the playtime he and Moomie had this weekend.

the xx

I don't think I mentioned Ryno, his brother and I all went to see The xx when they were in town last week. My experience was less than excellent due to the rudest frat boy I've ever encountered. When I get to the point of wanting to give someone a piece of my mind, you know they are beyond rude and disruptive. The show was amazing, but we spent the entire time trying to block out this guy's apparently very important and loud conversation with his date (he was honestly shouting over the music). Anyway, we enjoyed what we could hear of the show, and I would love to see them again. It was their first ever headliner show, which I thought was cool to see. They definitely seemed excited to reach that milestone, and it showed in their performance. I couldn't decide which video to show, because I love "VCR" and the video is so appropriate with its young love scenario. However, I'm easily taken in by a live recording, which they did for "Angels" (another favorite) in Tokyo. I've decided to make it a double-feature, hope you enjoy and if they are touring near you check them out!

ps- my favorite line in "VCR:"
"And we, we live half in the daytime,
and we, we live half at night."

little and pink

I was reading this article when I came across the beautyblender, an ergonomic sponge for applying foundation. It's the first time I've heard of it, but I'm really intrigued. I've always felt so wasteful using the standard triangular sponge for applying my tinted moisturizer or foundation everyday. I have been toying with trading out the sponge for a foundation brush, but I'm not confident I would be able to apply it evenly with a brush. The beautyblender is reusable once cleaned with the blendcleanser, so no more throwing away make-up sponges. I may stop by Sephora this week to pick one of these up. Has anyone ever tried beautyblender? I'll let you know how it goes.

hive, how are you?

Ryno has started a new project, he is building a bee hive. He's been researching bee keeping for over a year, and he decided to start his hive this Spring. Last night he worked for hours building frames that will eventually hold the honey. He will be documenting the process on his site ATX Bees, check it out here.

fun in the sun

A belated weekend update...

We spent Saturday at Zilker Park. Part of the time we attempted barefoot running and the rest of the day  we enjoyed reading on a picnic blanket with Elton curled up next to us. It was gorgeous on Saturday, and we couldn't bare the idea of spending the day inside. Apparently we weren't the only ones, because the park was slammed. All of the dogs were off leash running around chasing frisbees, but after a few attempts of allowing Elton to run with the other dogs it became clear that he felt no need to check back with us like his fellow playmates were doing with their owners. He would just wander off and happily join other peoples' picnics. Here are a couple of photos I snapped while we were out playing.

randy travis

I recently started listening to an old album again. My dad always played Randy Travis' album Heroes and Friends on road trips. My favorite songs were his duets with Willie Nelson and the one with Dolly Parton. He starts the album and ends it with the song "Heroes and Friends." The album is a classic if you've never heard it. Have a great weekend!

scoutmob shoppe

My friend sent me a link to some tees the other day on Scoutmob designed by Passive Juice Motel. I loved them so much I had to share them here. Personally my favorite is Hemingway, I always had such a crush on him in English class. He was by far the cutest writer featured in school books. However, if I were to get Ryno one it would definitely be the Ira Glass shirt, he loves NPR! The one for Moonrise Kingdom is titled "I love you but." Such a great line!

Happy Valentine's Day! I hope that you are having a great heart holiday. I kicked off the day with handwritten notes and candy heart bracelets for my co-workers. I have always enjoyed Valentine's day; I personally think getting to decorate shoe boxes and make cards for all your classmates was the height of excitement in grade school. I always remember thinking, "I get to decorate this with construction paper and then my friends will fill it with notes and candy? Yes please!"

For those of you still looking for a some fun Valentine's gifts, I have a few suggestions: a cute letter holder, a soft pink leather bag & a pink stripe blouse. Also, don't forget a fun toy for your pup. Elton absolutely loves his Bumi toy! Have a Happy Valentine's!

sequins and champagne

I spent the weekend in Atlanta with friends. We were there celebrating my friend Lisa's bachelorette party. We had a very girly weekend, which was so fun! The first night we had margaritas and Mexican. Saturday the real fun began with the bridal shower, make-overs, a blow dry bar for our hair and dancing, lots of dancing! One of the girls suggested we all wear sequins out on Saturday, which ended up adding some sparkle to our group, and I thought it was a great update to the traditional bachelorette sash. Overall, the weekend made me even more excited for the wedding, I can't wait to celebrate together!

passion pit

Lately, I've been obsessed with Passion Pit, and I can't get enough of their song "Carried Away." Ryno is planning to start building a bee hive with his brother. I'll share pics when they have the structure together. Until then enjoy Passion Pit and have a great weekend!

color me happy

Have I ever mentioned my love for Sephora? I would guess it was about five years ago that my parents gave me a gift card to Sephora for Valentine's day, and I've been hooked ever since. I'm going to be in a wedding in Puerto Rico this spring, and I wanted some advice on the make-up I should use for the wedding. I am definitely a girl that sports the no make-up look for my day-to-day, so anytime I have to do my own make-up for big events I get a little nervous. For this particular wedding, the dress is so similar to my skin tone that I have been completely freaked out as far as color choices for things like eye shadow and lipstick. I signed up for a consultation at Sephora, and the lady that helped me was extremely patient and informative. She didn't seem to believe me when I told her I had no idea how to use eye-liner, and I'm fairly certain they were all thoroughly amused by my naivety within the range of make-up products. I specifically recall a discussion about bronzer that caused some jaws to drop. All the same, I left feeling really prepared to mimic what she did in the shop. Minus a few mishaps with eye-liner I've been able to accomplish the basics at least. My favorite products that she showed me have been the Smashbox liquid liner pen, the Stila light palette eye shadow and the Smashbox brow pen. Also, I feel like the world of make-up brushes has really opened up for me. It was definitely a great experience for me, but just a heads up they require a $50 purchase (could be in the form of a gift card) for the consultation.

*A photo of the complete look, so I'll know if I get the same result.

Ryno and I took it pretty easy this weekend.  I can't seem to completely kick the cold I had last week. I'm feeling a lot better, but I really needed to catch up on sleep. We did get out a bit more though. I had plans to get my haircut, and we wanted Elton to have a chance to play at the park while the weather was so nice. We also made a quick trip to IKEA for some garden pots. Ryno and I got a grapefruit tree from my parents for our 5th anniversary. The gift for your fifth is wood, so they had offered to buy us a tree. We weren't able to find a large enough pot at IKEA, so we're going to check out some garden centers to see what we can find. I'll share a photo once we are able to repot it. Also, my dad finished my terrarium before they left, and now I need to find the right succulents to go in it. Have you seen the new terrariums at West Elm? I may buy one to pair with my stained glass terrarium. I have the feeling this one terrarium is going to send me into a terrarium collecting spree.
