gary clark jr.

Ryno played Gary Clark Jr. for me last year after his album, Blak & Blu released. I've been pretty hooked ever since, and I'm hoping to catch a show whenever his tour brings him back to his home town, Austin. Let's kick off the weekend with "Bright Lights." It's so good!

We're wrapping up some details for Ryno's bee-keeping and just relaxing a little this weekend. I hope you have a happy Easter weekend!

I mentioned earlier this month that I spent quite a bit of time at the Sephora store sorting out what make-up I would take to Puerto Rico for my friend's wedding. While some of the items aren't extremely versatile one piece is proving to be great for my day-to-day routine, specifically the Stila eyeshadow in the light palette. I have always loved neutral eyeshadow and this palette has a bunch of great neutrals that can be combined. My only complaint is that wish the packaging were a little more compact so it could travel more easily.

Ryno and I spent last weekend in Brenham, Texas. Saturday Ryno attended a bee-keeping school at the fair grounds in Brenham. The class started early in the morning, so we decided to make a weekend trip of it. We found an adorable bed and breakfast called Quebe Farm to spend the weekend. The owner, Charlotte, had so many special touches around the farm house, and she was very hospitable. Charlotte attended the bee-keeping school with Ryno, and when they returned to the farm in the afternoon she took us on a tour of her land to see her feral bees. I had never seen bees in a hollowed out section of a tree before. It was really amazing. We were able to bring Elton with us, which made the trip even more enjoyable. He loved running through the tall grass and touring the farm on Charlotte's ATV. We had a great time exploring the farm and seeing the first signs of wildflowers blooming along the country roads. Brenham was a great weekend trip from Austin, and we'd love to go back again soon.

vacation [part two]

vacation [part one]

Ryno and I arrived mid-afternoon in Old San Juan, dropped our things by the apartment we rented and headed out to do a bit of site-seeing. We followed a walking tour of Old San Juan to get a feel for the city. During the days following the wedding we checked out the National Historic Fort El Morro, walked to a public beach, toured the capitol building and drove to El Yunque rain forest. We also did a little shopping at Ole´, a hat shop a friend recommended. Ryno bought an awesome straw hat that I'm convinced is the reason everyone kept speaking to him in Spanish.

We loved the rain forest, however, driving without Google street view proved to be more challenging than we anticipated. We followed Fodor's recommendation for a different route on the way back from the rain forest and came across some unbelievably beautiful, deserted beaches.

ps- the streets are paved with blue was stunning!

vacation [part one]

Hi friends! Ryno and I have been busy the past couple weeks enjoying our Spring vacation. First we traveled to Puerto Rico for a destination wedding followed by a weekend trip to Brenham, Texas for our first ever B&B experience. I'm breaking our vacation stories into a few posts, because I have a lot I want to share!

Since the wedding kicked off our vacation, I will start there. Our friends, Lisa & Robby, have been planning their destination wedding for over a year. It was so exciting once the day was finally upon us. The wedding was absolutely beautiful. It took place at the Cathedral of San Juan Bautista in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. The reception followed at El Convento, a stunning hotel across the street. We celebrated late into the morning and ended the evening at El Morro, the national historic fort, for group photos. I can't wait to see how they turn out. Lisa sent me a sneak peak of her photos from the photographer, so I thought I would share a few. Lisa was so gorgeous in her ruffled wedding dress!

Below are the only photos I snapped of the wedding (the table numbers I painted, Lisa and the final save-the-date)

Sorry things have been quiet here so far this week. I have some fun stuff to share about SXSW, but I'm taking the week off and will return next Wednesday. Hope you have a great week. I can't wait to share everything with you then!

South By South West officially kicked off yesterday, and Austin has definitely filled up in the past few days. We are going to a few events this weekend to see Ryno's friend's movie. Also, my dad is visiting us this week, so it's going to be fun to spend some time with him this weekend too. I could be on trend and share some of the artists that are going to be playing this week at the SXSW events... word leaked that Justin Timberlake will be here. However, I came across the video below here, and it made us laugh. I decided to share it instead. I hope you enjoy; have a great weekend!

floral numbers

I've been working on a lot of weddings lately, which I love to do in my free time. It's great helping friends with special details for their wedding day. I mentioned earlier this week that I helped set up a friend's wedding installation last weekend, and this week I made some custom table numbers for another friend's upcoming nuptials.

Ryno and I have been building our plant collection as of late. We now have two fruit trees, the grapefruit tree we bought in January and yesterday we bought an avocado tree! I couldn't believe they were being sold locally. We picked between four different avocado trees, but I honestly wanted to buy all of them. I decided to name our trees, because I've read naming plants increases the likelihood of them surviving. We named the grapefruit tree Johnny and the avocado tree June. Also, I was finally able to get a nice mix of succulents for my dodecahedron terrarium, so I planted it as well. I'm happy with it, but I definitely bought too many plants and one that was too large to fit in it overall.

kite day

We celebrated Austin's Kite Day again this past weekend. We've managed to consistently go every year, and our kites keeps improving each year too! Maybe next year I will actually get around to hand making our kites...maybe, I think I said that last year. We rocked a classic penguin kite this year, and when I say "we" I mean Ryno. He showed off some impressive kite flying abilities, while I visited with friends, ate snacks and played with Elton. Elton had his first true encounter with a baby, which was fantastic. He licked baby C all over his face (fortunately his parents' were fine with that) and the rest of the time he was pretty calm and mild mannered. The best was that C loves to share food, so Elton and he became fast friends.

I also helped a friend decorate a wedding reception for her brother's wedding. I was able to dedicate all of my time to the reception installation while she handled coordinating lots of people and decor details. It was a fun way to spend a Saturday morning, and I think the entire wedding came together really nicely thanks to her planning!

Teagan & Sara

My sister's birthday was this week, so I thought I should close out the week with her favorite artists Tegan and Sara. She is going to see them in concert as part of her birthday celebration. Also, if you're local to Austin they will be here for SXSW and are performing three different shows in Austin. Happy birthday Jess!

Ryno and I have plans to go to the kite festival with friends this weekend. It's our third year in a row to go; we look forward to it every year. I hope you have a great weekend!
